Carlos Barriento is a freelance double bassist, chamber musician and educator in the New York Metropolitan area. Currently, he is a member of the Metamorphosis Chamber Orchestra, Distinguished Concerts International, Symphony of Westchester and the Music Ministry at the historic Parish of Calvary-St. George’s.
He has also performed with Ensemble LPR, the International Contemporary Ensemble, Aeon Ensemble, Mimesis Ensemble, South Florida Symphony and Lancaster Symphony, and on Broadway, among others. Most recently, Mr. Barriento’s playing was featured on the award-winning animated short film, First Light (2020). As an educator, Mr. Barriento is Professor of Double Bass at Manhattan School of Music Precollege, faculty member of the Opportunity Music Project (an El Sistema-based program) and Director of Strings for more than a decade at the Fair Lawn Summer Music Enrichment Program (NJ).
Additionally, Mr. Barriento founded the Fair Lawn Academy of Music (NJ) in 2018, expanding music eduction and live professional performances in his home community. Studies include: Orin O’Brien, Linda McKnight, Alla Basis, Lewis Paer, David Grossman, Timothy Cobb and Marji Danilow. Mr. Barriento holds degrees from Manhattan School of Music, Mannes School of Music and Columbia University.
