A native of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, Dr. Gail B. Levinsky is committed to the teaching and training young musicians. Presently serving on the faculty of Susquehanna University, her career began teaching saxophone in the Dallas (TX) area (Grades 6-12) and for the past 24 years in higher education.

She regularly presents clinics at state music education symposiums, such as MENC Eastern Region Conference, Pennsylvania New Jersey, Delaware Music Educators Associations, as well as the Midwest Band & Orchestra Clinic. Her publications include a newly revised edition of Rosemary Lang’s “Beginning Altissimo Method” (Ensemble Publications), and the saxophone chapters in “Teaching Woodwinds: A Guide for Students & Teachers” (Moutain Peak Publications).   A passionate performer, Dr. Levinsky has presented recitals in United States, Canada and Europe, and in Abu Dhabi (AUE). Additional presentations include performances at the North American Saxophone Alliance, World Saxophone Congress, British Saxophone Congress, United States Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, Festival of Women Composers, Southeast Composers League and the Indiana State Contemporary Music Festival. As a solo performer, she is an active in commissioning and premiering new works for saxophone, including most recently “Quiet Hearts: A Kaddish” by Marilyn Shrude, and two premieres in 2019 by composers Miho Sasaki and Douglas McConnell. Dr. Levinsky’s CD recording, Tipping Point: Music Saxophone & Other Voices (2009) features the compositions of Jason Bahr, Mark Engebretson, Paul Hayden, Matthew Quayle and Sonny Burnette.

Levinsky received her Bachelor of Music from Butler University, and Master Graduate Certificate of Performance, and Doctorate from Northwestern University where she studied with Dr. Frederick L. Hemke. Her dissertation, “An Analysis and Comparison of Early Saxophone Methods Published Between 1846-1946,” explores the first hundred years of published methods for teaching the saxophone. She is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, Kappa Delta Pi honor fraternities, Who’s Who in America and held elected offices with the North American Saxophone Alliance, presently serving as Region VIII director. Dr. Levinsky is a clinician/artist for Selmer Paris and DANSR.
